Commerce Data Advisory Council to Hold Second Gathering at Intel Headquarters in Santa Clara

WASHINGTON – The Commerce Data Advisory Council (CDAC) will hold its second meeting at Intel's Headquarters in Santa Clara, California on Thursday, July 30. Appointed by Secretary Pritzker, the 19-member council provides guidance on areas such as data management practices; common, open data standards; policy issues related to privacy, latency, and consistency; effective models for public-private partnership; external uses of Commerce data; and methods to build new feedback loops between the Department and data users. The council is comprised of leading technologists and data leaders who work for some of the most innovate public and private sector organizations, including: Intel, Google, IBM, LinkedIn, PayPal, Amazon Web Services, City of San Francisco, Indiana University, and more.

Millennials Outnumber Baby Boomers and Are Far More Diverse, Census Bureau ReportsMillennials, or America's youth born between 1982 and 2000, now number 83.1 million and represent more than one quarter of the nation's population. Their size exceeds that of the 75.4 million baby boomers, according to new U.S. Census Bureau estimates released today. Overall, millennials are more diverse than the generations that preceded them, with 44.2 percent being part of a minority race or ethnic group (that is, a group other than non-Hispanic, single-race white).

These latest population estimates examine changes among groups by age, sex, race and Hispanic origin nationally, as well as in all states and counties, between April 1, 2010, and July 1, 2014.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker issued the following statement today on the release of the April 2015 U.S. International Trade in Goods and Services data. U.S. exports of goods and services increased to $189.9 billion in April from $188.0 billion in March. The goods and services trade deficit improved by $9.7 billion to $40.9 billion in April.

New Report on Value of the American Community Survey

Washington, D.C. -- The U.S. Department of Commerce's Economics and Statistics Administration (ESA) released a new report today titled, "The Value of the American Community Survey: Smart Government, Competitive Businesses, and Informed Citizens."  The report shows how the Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS) is used to accurately direct over $400 billion in federal funds to the communities that need them, and to help businesses and community leaders make operational decisions that generate economic activity, boost employment, and improve the standard of living in communities across the country.

Statement from U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker on International Trade in Goods and Services in February 2015

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker issued the following statement today on the release of the February 2015 U.S. International Trade in Goods and Services data. The goods and services trade deficit improved by 17 percent to $35.4 billion in February. This is the lowest monthly trade deficit since October 2009.

The test census will help the U.S. Census Bureau evaluate technologies and advertising methods that will improve the efficiency of 2020 Census operations, thereby saving money while maintaining the Census Bureau's commitment to quality data.
